This is whats been happening. It will get worse over the next 2 days so buckle up! It has been super hot here in the Yucatan for the past three days with major outage issues. Darren and I had to take the day off away from the house and hang out at the mall where it was much cooler. Having no AC in this heat is seriously NO FUN! I heard we just got the beginning of it, and tomorrow on friday will be full blown. Can´t wait until this is over!
More on Solar Flares.
Solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are intense and powerful events that occur on the surface of the sun. According to recent reports, there have been several solar flares and CMEs in the past few days.
As of today, Friday, May 10, 2024, there have been reports of two solar flares, one on May 8 and another on May 7. The first solar flare peaked at 23:07 UTC on May 7 with a maximum X-ray flux of X1.9, and the second solar flare peaked at 06:32 UTC on May 8 with a maximum observed X-ray flux of X1.7. Both events caused a brief strong R3 radio blackout at the day-side of our planet.
Additionally, there have been reports of a CME produced by sunspot region 3576, which peaked yesterday at 23:07 UTC. The CME was fairly impulsive but did produce a nice eruption with a mostly northward trajectory.
There is also a 50% chance of an X flare today, according to recent reports. The coronal mass ejection (CME) produced during the largest X4.5 flare in yesterday’s period is expected to travel north of the Earth’s orbit, missing our planet. However, there are no new Earth-directed CMEs observed in coronagraph imagery.
It’s worth noting that the Earth’s magnetic field is currently quiet, but unsettled to active conditions are expected for the rest of the day due to high-speed solar wind from coronal holes.
